RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat was launched to a report of persons cut off by the tide at Cramond Island.
Four students from Edinburgh University and their very small dog named 'Clootie Dumpling' were uplifted from the island and passed to the waiting coastguard unit at Cramond Harbour.
The lifeboat was stood down and made for Hawes Pier.
